26 Jul Eat His Words
The Bible states in Jeremiah 15:16, “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me hte joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name O Lord God of hosts.” Through the Word of God we see several men or prophets that were told by God to “eat his words”. Here, Jeremiah found joy and rejoicing by eating them. The prophet Ezekiel was told to eat the “roll” in Ezekiel 2 and then go and give God’s Words to the people of Israel. John, in Revelation 10:9,10 was told to take the little book and “eat it up”, and that in his mouth it will be sweet as honey, but it would make his belly bitter.
As a pastor I am exhorted to feed the church of God and I always approach my message preparation time like I am preparing a meal for my church family. I labor over what to make, what to put in it, and hope that all of my church members are present to “eat” the Word of God when it is presented. I am supposed to eat the Word myself, and then go and preach it. All of us should desire to feast on God’s Word, let it fill us…eat it up! Sometimes it is sweet, and sometimes it is bitter, but it is always what we need. So…belly up to the table and get your “grub on”!
